According to the data released by the government, a big increase in retail inflation was shown in the month of September. The retail inflation was risen to 5.49% due to the continuous increase in the prices of food items.

After the wholesale inflation data, the retail inflation data has also been released. A rise to 5.49 percent on an annual basis in September was experienced by India's retail inflation rate. This increase was attributed to the continuous increase in the prices of food items. The 5-year low of 3.65% recorded last month is being much higher than retail inflation. For the first time since July, it has been crossed by it over the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) medium-term target of 4%.

This is the reason for the increase in retail inflation. The inflation rate of food items, which have half the share in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket, reached 9.24% in September. The retail inflation rate of food items was recorded at 5.66 in the month of August. Earlier, a retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was noted at 3.6 percent in July 2024 and 3.65 percent in August 2024. In both months of July and August, a retail inflation rate was maintained within the Reserve Bank's target of 4 percent. On the other hand, a CPI based retail inflation rate was noted at 6.83 percent in August 2023.

Wholesale inflation was also increased. Due to rising prices of vegetables and other food items, an increase to 1.84 percent in wholesale price inflation was observed in September. In August, an inflation based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) was recorded at 1.31 percent. It had been decreased by 0.07 percent in September last year. According to government data released on Monday, a rise to 11.53 percent in food inflation was reported for September, while it was noted at 3.11 percent in August.

What is the reason behind this?

This was attributed to vegetable inflation, which was reported to have risen by 48.73 percent in September. It was noted to have fallen by 10.01 percent in August. Potato inflation was reported to remain high at 78.13 percent in September and onion inflation at 78.82 percent. A deflation of 4.05 percent was observed in the fuel and power category in September, while a deflation of 0.67 percent was recorded.

A major change in the coaching staff has been made by five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025. Former Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene has been appointed as the head coach of the team in place of Mark Boucher. Boucher remained with Mumbai until 2023 and 2024. The head coach position of the Mumbai team was previously held by Jayawardene from 2017 to 2022. During his tenure, Mumbai was led to their third title in 2017, and at that time, the most successful team in the history of this league was established by the team.

An important role in winning the title for Mumbai in 2019 and 2020 was played by Jayawardene, and thus five titles were successfully won by Mumbai. The Global Head of Cricket position was assumed by Jayawardene in 2022. A very bad season was experienced by Mumbai last year, and the bottom of the points table was finished at by the team. Only four matches were won by Mumbai in the 2024 season under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.

It was said by Jayawardene that his journey in the Mumbai Indians family has always been about development. In 2017, a focus on building a group of talented players to play the best cricket was emphasized, and very well it was done. Now an exciting challenge that is eagerly looked forward to is presented by the opportunity to continue contributing to the history of Mumbai

Finally, the curtains have risen on the retention rules for IPL 2025 and the mega one that preceded it - the auction aired. The retention rules were communicated to all 10 franchises late on Saturday night after an IPL Governing Council meeting. Many important decisions were taken. Apart from that, some new rules and some old ones were reintroduced. The most interesting one is regarding players who no longer participate in the tournament after being bought in the auction. If a player does this, he will be banned from playing for two seasons. The franchise purse has also been increased by Rs 20 crore.

1. Maximum of six players can be retained.

Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players. This also includes the Right-to-Match (RTM) option. This could include two uncapped Indians. The IPL has also stated that it can have a maximum of five international players. These can be all Indian or all foreign or a mix of both for a maximum of five international players. One player must be uncapped.

2. The Matching Rights Card is back

RTM is back in the auction. It wasn't used in the last Mega Auction. The Matching Rights Card was last used in the 2017 Mega Auction, but it wasn't used in the 2022 Mega Auction. But now she's back. The RTM gives franchises the opportunity to buy back players during the auction. After the bidding is completed, if the player's old team wants the player, the old team has to pay the amount offered by the new team and gets the player back. After at least three franchises supported RTM, the IPL decided to reintroduce it. However, this time, there are some twists in the "Right to Play" cards.

For the benefit of the players, the IPL has made some changes to the RTM rules. This means that the highest bidder has one last chance to raise his bid for the player before the team with the RTM card exercises its rights. For example, if team 1 holds the RTM for a player, team 2 has the opportunity to increase their bid if team 1 agrees. If team 2 increases their bid to Rs 9 crore, team 1 can use the RTM to buy player X for Rs 9 crore. If team 2 does not increase their bid and leaves it at Rs 6 crore, team 1 can use the RTM to acquire player X for Rs 6 crore.

3. Auction amount increased to Rs 200 crore

The auction amount has been increased to Rs 120 crore. This means that the franchises will need Rs 120 crore to build their teams. Once committed, this money will be changed and the franchises will participate in the mega auction with the remaining money. This amount is Rs 200 crore higher than the previous auction (Rs 100 crore). This is one of the most important decisions of the IPL Board.

4. How will money be deducted from the franchise wallet after the players are retained?

If a franchise wants to retain the five players they have selected, this amount will be deducted from its purse: For the first three ties, Rs 1.8 crore (Player 1), Rs 1.4 crore (Player 2) and Rs 1.1 crore (Player 3) will be deducted and charged from the franchise wallet. For the remaining two ties, Rs 1.8 crore (Player 4) and Rs 1.4 crore (Player 5) will be deducted from the franchise wallet.

This means that a franchise that had retained five international players before the auction will lose Rs 75 crore out of the total Rs 1.2 billion.

For players with no international experience, up to Rs 40 crore can be spent on bonding. The same happened in the 2021 mega auction. This means that a franchise retaining six players (one of whom has no international experience) will lose Rs 79 crore from its kitty and will be left with only Rs 41 crore for the mega auction.

5. Impact Player Rule remains popular

Despite opposition from several franchises and former cricketers, the BCCI retained the Impact Player Rule. Rohit Sharma had expressed concerns that the rule could have a detrimental effect on the development of all-rounders. However, the IPL has decided to retain the Impact Player rule, which will continue till 2027. The rule was first implemented in 2023. Nine of the 10 highest scores in the history of IPL have been achieved after the introduction of the Impact Player rule. This rule allows teams to replace one player from the starting eleven and use a 12th player. IPL believes that this rule will move the IPL forward and is also good from a viewership point of view.

6. Injury Replacements and Player Loans

Until IPL 2024, franchises had to find replacements for injured players before the seventh match of the season. From IPL 2025, teams can now replace injured players until the 12th match of the league phase. At the same time, the IPL has decided to reintroduce the player loan process, although the player loan rule is not yet in place. It can only be activated during the season.

7. New rule on international experience, easier path for Dhoni

Former captain Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, can now participate in the auction as an experienced international player. In a meeting of the apex council, it was decided that an Indian player will be considered as an experienced international player if he has not played for the national team in the last five calendar years. According to an official statement from the IPL, an experienced Indian player will be considered as an experienced international player if he has not played as a starting player in any international cricket (Test Match, ODI, T20 International) in the last five calendar years prior to the respective match. He has either completed a season or is not under a central contract with the BCCI. This rule is applicable only to Indian players. The rule change means that former Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Dhoni, who last played for the Indian team against New Zealand in 2019, will be considered an uncapped player for IPL 2025.

8. ... will then face a ban of two seasons

In a document submitted to franchises on the retention rules, the IPL said: "If a season is not available, he will be disqualified from participating in the IPL or IPL auctions for two seasons. The IPL Governing Council said: "The only exception would be if a player has an injury or medical condition which is confirmed by the player's association." Strict rules for foreign players

After players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc won huge amounts of money in the mini-auction last year, the IPL governing body has also made major changes with regards to the mega-auction and mini-auction. It states that foreign players who do not register or forget to register for the mega-auction will not be able to register for the mini-auction either. Again, exceptions apply whereby players suffering from injuries or illnesses will be exempt from registration. This will be confirmed by the player's home association before the mega-auction.

9. In IPL 2025, players will earn Rs 7.5 million as match fees of
will earn more. The BCCI has decided to pay each player a match fee of Rs 7.5 million per match. This means that franchises will pay the teams for their playing time during the season, in addition to their contracts. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the move. He said that Rs 12.6 crore will be allocated to each franchise as match fees for the season. This amount is allocated in addition to the auction price of the franchises. The 12 players in the team list will receive match fees of Rs 9 crore per match (12 players in total). Multiply this by 14 matches (total number of matches played by each team during the league period) and it comes to Rs 1,260 crore.

<media:keywords>India Bharat Business RBI Reserve Bank of India Reserve Bank Report on Green Energy</media:keywords>

The dominance of fossil fuels in power generation in India will end by the end of the decade. The Reserve Bank of India has made this claim in its latest report. The report said that the share of renewable energy in power generation globally is expected to cross 50 percent. According to the report, the energy transition has accelerated in recent years. Apart from this, the pace of deployment of clean technology and capital investment has reached record levels.

The RBI said, "The era of dominance of fossil fuels is coming to an end, and the share of renewable energy in power generation globally is expected to cross 50 percent by the end of this decade." According to the report, an increase in clean energy generation will help sectors such as steelmaking and aviation, where low-carbon options are still in their early stages. The central bank also highlighted the importance of increasing investment in low-carbon energy.

The RBI said, "Clean power generation can boost the aggressive carbon emission reductions that are urgently needed. This will provide more time to tackle sectors such as steelmaking and aviation, where carbon emission reductions are currently a challenge."

The report states that for every dollar invested in fossil fuels, an average of three dollars needs to be allocated to renewable energy in the coming years, which is much higher than the current ratio, where both sectors are getting equal investment. Tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 is considered essential to meet net-zero emission targets by mid-century.

"On the energy supply side, for every US dollar spent on fossil fuels, an average of US $3 should be invested in low-carbon energy over the rest of the decade," the RBI said. In the report, RBI has highlighted that the estimated cost of a completely carbon-free global energy system by 2050 will be US$215 trillion.

However, the report remains optimistic about the ongoing efforts to green the financial sector. It emphasised that striking the right balance between public policy interventions and market-based competition will prove to be the key towards achieving this ambitious energy transition. The central bank also said that financial inclusion has improved significantly as the world moves towards a more sustainable energy future.

Car maintenance is necessary.

If you drive at night or often drive at night for work, regular and proper car maintenance is very important. In fact, if your car has problems on an unfamiliar road at night, it is often very difficult to call for help. In such a situation, you should check many important and sensitive parts of your car before driving at night.

Regular Battery Check

If you are driving at night, your car battery should be fully charged. A weak car battery will affect all electrical devices, including your car's headlights. In such a situation, if your car's headlights do not work at night, it may cause problems in driving. Many roads are not well lit, which is why accidents happen so often.

Lanes are important

If you want to drive safely at night, try to stay in one lane only. This will help you avoid the stress of having to change lanes frequently. To avoid accidents, give timely turn signals to surrounding vehicles before changing lanes. Also, avoid stopping in the middle of the road at night, as this increases the risk of an accident.

Please pay attention to the following points

If you are not used to driving at night, please prepare yourself in advance. For example, you should have a good sleep and eat light food before a night drive. At the same time, do not play loud music while driving at night, as you will not get accurate information about the surrounding traffic and your car will often become a victim of an accident.

<media:keywords>Sports Cricket Sri Lanka New Zealand Test Series SLvsNZ Prabath Jayasuriya</media:keywords>

Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya performed brilliantly and took six wickets in the first innings due to which New Zealand's first innings collapsed for 88 runs on the third day of the second Test match. Sri Lanka thus gained a lead of 514 runs in the first innings and forced the Kiwi team to play follow-on. The match was overshadowed by rain due to which the day's play had to be ended prematurely. By stumps, New Zealand has lost five wickets for 199 runs in the second innings and is still trailing by 315 runs.

By the end of the day's play, wicketkeeper batsman Tom Blundell was present at the crease with 47 runs and Glenn Phillips with 32 runs. In the second innings, Nishan Peiris took three wickets for Sri Lanka, while Prabath and captain Dhananjay de Silva have got one wicket each. New Zealand's position in the match is not good and there is a threat of a big defeat on them.

Could not handle the innings of Conway-Williamson

After poor batting in the first innings, New Zealand did not start well in the second innings as well and Tom Latham was dismissed in the first over without opening the account. However, Devon Conway and Kane Williamson tried to handle the innings to some extent and added 97 runs for the second wicket. Conway hit a half-century during this time, but de Silva broke this partnership by dismissing Conway. Conway returned to the pavilion after scoring 61 runs. Shortly after this, Nishan put New Zealand in trouble by dismissing Williamson (46) and Rachin Ravindra (12).

Prabath spread his magic

After the first match, Prabath spread his magic in the second match too and disrupted New Zealand's innings. New Zealand batsmen were seen struggling on the spin-friendly Galle pitch. New Zealand started the day at 22 runs for two wickets and lost the remaining wickets of the first innings in the morning session due to which the team was reduced to just 88 runs. It is known that Sri Lanka declared the first innings at 602 runs for five wickets.

Overall, monsoons are a double-edged sword for cars and their owners. It is important to take care of your car just before the monsoon and throughout the season. However, it is important to always check your car and take extra care after the monsoon. Here are some important tips to follow to maintain your car after monsoon:

Wash your car thoroughly

The first and most important step to take in caring for your car after monsoon is to wash it thoroughly. During monsoon, your car is exposed to muddy roads and heavy rains, leaving the exterior of your car covered in dirt, soot and pollutants. To remove these, a thorough cleaning is required. You can take your car to a gas station or repair shop for a wash, but you can also do it at home.

Use a pH-neutral car shampoo to gently remove dirt. Among other things, you will need a microfiber cloth, a wheel cleaning brush and a bucket filled with water. However, you may need a pressure washer to clean the chassis and wheel arches as these areas are most prone to accumulate dirt and debris. After washing your car thoroughly, you can apply wax to add an extra layer of protection to your paintwork.

Treat Rust Immediately

Rust is a nightmare for most car owners. And the risk increases during monsoon season. Water and air can affect the metal parts of your car, causing rust. If left untreated, this can damage vital metal parts of your vehicle. After the monsoon, check your car thoroughly for rust. If there is rust, it is best to take your car to a repair shop and get it repaired. Moreover, applying an anti-rust coating can protect the metal parts of your car's undercarriage from rust for a long time.

Tyre Inspection and Maintenance

Inspecting your tyres is an important part of regular car care, whatever the season. The monsoon season can result in increased tyre wear. Potholes, dirty water, mud and dirt damage the rubber in your tyres. Your driving habits and braking behaviour also affect your tyres. It is important to check the tyre tread depth and signs of uneven tyre wear. If there is uneven wear or reduced tread depth, it is best to replace your tyres.

Cleaning the interior of your car

Like the exterior, the cabin of your car is also exposed to the monsoons. Moisture and humidity can lead to the growth of mould inside the cabin. Dampness inside the cabin can also cause foul odours. These need to be treated immediately to avoid long term problems. Vacuum the seats, carpets and floor mats to remove dirt and moisture. Use a good interior cleaner to clean the dashboard, door panels and other hard surfaces. It is useful to have moisture absorbers and dehumidifiers on hand. Also, keep an air freshener in the cabin.

Check Electrical Components

The electrical components of your vehicle are the most exposed to monsoons. Electronics and electrical systems in modern cars are prone to water damage. Hence, after the monsoons, check the electrical components like the lighting system. If you find any errors, get them repaired. Also, check the battery connections for corrosion and get them repaired if present.

Weather update from Karthik

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Dinesh Karthik has given a weather update. He wrote: "It rained here late last night. We have removed the covers and are also slowly clearing away the accumulated water in the fields. Hope the match starts on time."

India-Bangladesh Test Statistics

India has played 14 matches against Bangladesh in Tests. This is the first time that India and Bangladesh will face each other in a Test at Kanpur. India's track record in Kanpur is very strong. In 23 Tests, the country has lost only three matches here. However, most of the 13 Tests have ended in draws and they have won only seven matches.

Reducing plastic consumption

The UPCA has decided to drastically reduce plastic consumption during the second Test to keep the environment clean. The UPCA has banned plastic plates for serving 'snacks' inside the stadium and only paper plates are permitted. Stadium director Sanjay Kapoor said, "The match is being played at Green Park and we are trying to make it a 'green' match. We have decided to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible."

Soil sourced from village near Unnao

Black soil for the Green Park pitch has been sourced, as always, from a village near Unnao, 23 km from Kanpur. Black soil pitches traditionally help spinners, while red soil helps fast bowlers. The pitch is expected to be slower. An Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) official said, "We have got this soil tested from the Indian Institute of Technology. This is a special soil found near a pond in Kali Mitti village."

Pitch Report

The pitch at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium is said to be conducive to both fast bowlers and spinners. It is geared towards helping the fast bowlers in the early stages and the spinners in the later stages of the game. Green Park curators issued a statement on Wednesday saying the pitch would help the fast bowlers in the first two sessions and the spinners in the last three days. Curator Shiv Kumar said, "It will have exactly the same feel as the match in Chennai. There will be something for everyone." There will be some bounce in the first two sessions, which will be very good for batting in the first two days. This will mean the role of the spinners will be important in the remaining three days.'

What will the weather be like?

Poor weather is expected for the first three days of the second Test in Kanpur. There is also a chance of rain during this period. On the first day of the Test, September 27, there is a 93% chance of rain and a 99% chance of cloudy weather. Rain is expected to be more likely during the day and intensify towards the evening. On the second day of the test match, there is an 80% chance of cloud cover and a 28% chance of rain. On the third day, there is a 75% chance of rain and a 59% chance of cloudiness. On the fourth and fifth days, the weather will improve and the chances of rain are very low.

First Test after 2021

The Indian team will play the second test match against Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27. Both the teams took part in a training session after their arrival in Kanpur. Rohit Sharma's Indian team is leading 1-0 in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. The Indian team won the first Test at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai by a huge margin of 280 runs. With this win, the Indian team has cemented its place at the top of the World Test Championship in 2023-25. A win in the second Test will see the Indian team dominate Bangladesh. Kanpur will host a Test match for the first time since 2021, when New Zealand played out an exciting draw against India.

The electric vehicle market has been witnessing a slowdown in recent times. At the center of this is the reduction in EV subsidy and the decline in sales of electric cars. But Kinetic Green, the company that makes E-Luna, has announced its entry into the B2C (business-to-consumer) electric three-wheeler segment. The company on Wednesday introduced a new range of electric three-wheelers based on a completely new platform.

Lithium ion batteries have been used in these commercial three-wheeler electric vehicles for better performance. With this, these EVs will be able to travel long distances without worry like ICE (petrol and diesel) vehicles with fast charging. The company's product is expected to be introduced in the last quarter of FY 2025.

Kinetic Green founder and CEO Sulajja Firodia Motwani said in a conversation, "After achieving success through e Luna and e-rickshaw, our aim is to become a green mobility provider for the general public. And we will bring change in the field of two-wheelers and three-wheelers. Along with this, almost 100 percent of the demand of the ever-growing Indian electric three-wheeler market can be met."

Fast charging solution

Along with the new three-wheeler range, Kinetic Green also unveiled its extra fast charging solution. It fully charges the battery of the vehicle in less than 15 minutes. With which the vehicle can cover a distance of more than 100 kilometers. The company currently has 100 charging stations. The company aims to increase their number to 250 by this financial year. After which the company wants to increase the scope of these EV chargers to 1000 locations.

Family electric scooter will come soon

Along with this, the electric vehicle manufacturer is also working on a family electric scooter. Which is expected to come in the market in the next 18 months. However, Firodia has said that Kinetic Green has no intention of entering the fast-growing electric motorcycle segment in the Indian market.

She considers the electric avatar of its iconic Luna, E-Luna, very important for the company. Motwani said that this electric scooter will have an urban look. He also said that this upcoming family electric scooter will be positioned with the company's E-Luna.

Firodia believes that the EV revolution will come in India not from electric cars, but from electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

According to Firodia, the two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicle segments are the most important in the Indian EV scenario. This will play the biggest role in ensuring last-mile connectivity. He said, "We want to make e-mobility accessible and affordable. This is a big opportunity for us. And we plan to increase our revenue to Rs 10,000 crore by 2030." 60 percent of this revenue is expected to come from the company's two-wheeler business.

He said, "By that time we will make more than 10 lakh electric vehicles, including one lakh three-wheelers and 10 lakh two-wheelers. Which will contribute Rs 3,500 crore and Rs 6,000 crore to the revenue respectively. The remaining Rs 500 crore will come from the golf cart JV."

Earlier in August this year, the company raised $25 million from Greater Pacific Capital in a Series A round and is going to raise another $15 million. The company had set up a new manufacturing plant in Supa, Maharashtra to increase production. It plans to raise another $15 million to invest in research and development and market expansion.

Firodia Motwani said, "We are announcing our next phase with 3.0. It is time to aggressively scale and expand our presence. There is a lot more to come."

Kinetic Green expects its market share to reach 10 per cent in the next 4-5 years. As the company will export to markets in South Asia, Africa and Latin America in the coming years.

The company claims that with these new products, it now has the largest product portfolio in this segment with L3 and L5. This will increase the market from 10 per cent to 100 per cent. These products will be available in the range of Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.

Firodia Motwani expects the penetration of electric three-wheelers in the country to increase to 75 per cent by the end of this decade. He says that the market for electric three-wheelers will grow to Rs 40,000 crore by the end of the decade.

Kinetic Green has sold more than 1 lakh electric vehicles in India so far with a revenue of over Rs 1200 crore.

By the end of this decade, the company expects to sell around 1.5 lakh three-wheelers with a turnover of Rs 3,400 crore.

The Karnataka government has announced the withdrawal of one of its controversial directives. The government had issued a circular instructing the state departments to refrain from doing business with State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). Now the government has withdrawn this directive.

Earlier, the Karnataka government had decided not to deposit any government money in State Bank of India (SBI) and Punjab National Bank (PNB). The state finance department had instructed all government departments, enterprises, boards and corporations to close the accounts operated in these banks and withdraw the deposits.

In fact, SBI and PNB were accused of misusing government funds of various boards and corporations of Karnataka. According to the government, Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board had deposited Rs 25 crore in the Rajaji Nagar branch of PNB in November 2012. After the maturity of the deposit period, the bank returned only Rs 13 crore. Whereas Rs 12 crore was misused. Similarly, in 2013, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board had deposited Rs 10 crore in State Bank of Mysore. It is alleged that the bank adjusted the entire amount in a loan and refused to return the deposit amount. Both the cases are pending in the court.

Regarding this, the Finance Department of the government had issued instructions last month. The instructions said that all the departments should close the accounts operated in these banks and withdraw the deposit amount. The Secretary of the Finance Department of Karnataka has said in the order issued that no new amount should be invested in these banks. The Finance Department had instructed all the departments to close the accounts and give the details of the withdrawal of the deposit amount to the government. However, now this instruction has been withdrawn.

England was focused on Tests and played flat throws. In the meantime Kohli was out of form. Having made history with 34 Test centuries, Englishman Joe Root is the player to have played the most centuries for England. He is now hoping to beat Sachin Tendulkar's record of 51 centuries and 15,921 Test runs. While the 33-year-old Root may surpass Sachin, he is far behind Virat Kohli (29 centuries) in terms of Test runs and centuries.

<media:keywords>India Bharat Sports Cricket Virat Kohli Sachin Tendulkar Joe Root Steve Smith Kave Williamson Test series ODI England</media:keywords>

Until December 2019, Kohli was the player with the most Test centuries among active players, after which Root was not even in the top five. ANd int the next four years to this, Joe Root has scored 17 centuries, rising into the top among active players. On the other hand, Virat Kohli managed to score just two centuries in this time period.

Joe Root and Virat Kohli's journey in the timebeing

Root has changed in the last four years to become the best in Tests. He leaves behind not only Kohli but also modern-day greats like Australia's Steve Smith and New Zealand's Kane Williamson.

1. Root focuses on only one format

Joe Root made his Test debut on 13 December 2012 against India. He also made his ODI and T20 debuts within a month of each other. Root played in all three formats till 2018, but after May 2019, the management removed him from T20. 44 44 44 Root also did not get many chances in ODIs, but never missed a Test. England have played 69 Tests since 2019, Root has played in 68 of them, but could not play a single match due to injury. In these six years, Root has only played 50 ODIs and four T20s. During this period, England have played 163 limited-overs matches.

Meanwhile, Virat has focused on all three formats since his debut. India have played 47 Tests since 2019, with Virat playing 37 of them, the most in the team. India have played 105 ODIs so far, with Virat playing 79, the most in the team. He has also played 60 of India's 125 T20 matches. Suryakumar Yadav, who only played T20 cricket, could only play 71 matches during this period.

The difference is clear. Root plays only one format, so he can fully focus on scoring runs and centuries in Tests. Virat, on the other hand, contributed to the team in all three formats. Kohli is now retired from T20 cricket and has played fewer ODI matches, so this is the perfect opportunity for him to perform to his full potential in Tests.

2. England plays more Tests per year than India

Among the 12 Test eligible nations, England has played the most matches. The team has played 10 Tests this year but will have to play 7 more Tests in 2024, making the total 17 Tests. Since 2019, England has played 69 Tests and Australia 49 Tests. India, on the other hand, has only been able to play 47 Tests.

Root, 33, has played more Tests, 145 matches in his 11-year career. This has also led to more opportunities to score points in Tests. Virat, 35, on the other hand, has only been able to play 113 Tests in his 13-year career. England plays between 12 and 18 Tests every year, whereas India plays only between 8 and 12 Tests. While the numbers have certainly increased in recent years, England is still a long way from catching up.

3. Badgeball pitches help Root

In May 2022, New Zealander Brendon McCullum was appointed coach of the England Test team. After Root relinquished the captaincy, Ben Stokes became the captain of the England team. Since then, England has adopted an aggressive batting approach, but the team has also changed their home pitch to achieve this. Badgeball was also called in England. Until 2022, pitches in England had grass on them, which helped fast bowlers and made it difficult to score runs due to the swing.

After the introduction of the badge ball, all pitches in England became flat, making it easy to score runs but very difficult to take wickets. Root took advantage of this and scored seven centuries in 18 Tests at home but only two centuries in 10 Tests overseas. After the badge ball, Root scored two centuries in every fifth Test in England. Previously, he needed to play eight Tests to score a double century.

Meanwhile, India has already started changing their pitchers from the England series in February 2021. In the first match, it was easy to hit for the first two or three days, but the spin got better in the last two days. However, in the last four years, the ball started spinning from the first day of the match, and it was difficult to score runs. This is why not only Virat but batsmen all over the world are eager to score in India.

In the last three years, Virat has only managed to score one century at home. During this period, the remaining 87 players could score only 19 centuries in a total of 14 Tests. Again, foreign players could score only six centuries. From 2011 to 2021, India scored 92 centuries in 48 Tests. This means that while earlier around four centuries were scored in every other Test, now there are only three centuries in every second Test. But one thing is certain - Virat has managed to score just one century overseas in the last three years.

Root has scored 21 centuries in England and nine in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand. However, he could not score a century in Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan or the United Arab Emirates. Virat, on the other hand, has scored a century in every country he has played cricket for, except Bangladesh. He has scored six centuries in Australia and five centuries in England, South Africa and New Zealand. This means that it will be difficult for Root to reach 40 Test centuries if he does not get a home pitch.

4. Virat has been out of form for a long time
Virat Kohli scored his 27th Test century against Bangladesh on 23 November 2019. He scored many runs in 2019 but his form has been off since 2020. Centuries stopped coming in all three formats and although Virat scored runs reliably in ODIs and T20s, he also failed to deliver runs in Tests.

In a span of three years and three months, Virat could only score 993 runs in 22 Tests at an average of 26.13. He got 6/50, meaning that Virat was clearly in good form. Not only was it difficult to score runs in India, but Virat also struggled abroad. In March 2023, he scored the 28th century of his Test career against Australia and his first century from here against the West Indies.

Virat started scoring points and centuries in all three formats from September 2022. Over the next six months, India will play five Tests at home and five in Australia. Kohli is unlikely to get such a golden opportunity to reach peak form as he has scored 20 centuries at both venues.

Root has had a habit of scoring centuries in Tests when Virat was out of form. Since December 2019, he has scored more than 5000 runs in 57 Tests. These include 17 centuries and 19 fifties. His average is also approaching 55, the highest among active players who have completed 20 or more Tests.

Root reaches the top of the Fab-4 Test statistics
On 31 August 2014, New Zealand legend Martin Crowe identified the top four players and named them the Fab-4. They included Joe Root and Virat Kohli along with Kane Williamson of New Zealand and Steve Smith of Australia. Crowe said at the time that all four would be the best batsmen in world cricket over the next decade and captain their respective teams. And it happened.

Fab-4 No one has better ODI and T20 statistics than Virat. But in Tests, sometimes it was Smith, sometimes Virat, sometimes Williamson and now Root who took the lead. Till December 2019, Virat had the most Test centuries with 27. Since then, Smith has had 26 centuries, Williamson 21 and Root just 17.

In the last four years, Smith has only managed to score six Test centuries and Virat two, while Williamson has scored 11 centuries and Root 17 during this period. As a result, Root has outdone not only Virat in Tests but also Smith and Williamson. However, no one has proven to be a better Test captain than Virat.
