Gaurii comes from an orthodox family where girls are traditionally married off at a very young age. However, her parents believed in education and ensured that she completed her studies. Later, she pursued an MBA and also joined her father's business, which helped her become financially independent and shaped her entrepreneurial mindset.

Sharing her experience at the competition, Gaurii says, "Representing India on an international platform and winning four medals was an unforgettable experience. In a country where sports other than cricket often don't receive the same level of attention, facilities, or recognition, achieving success becomes even more meaningful. The most emotional moment was standing on the podium and hearing the national anthem play. The goosebumps and pride that come with representing your country cannot be explained in words. It is a feeling every athlete dreams of experiencing."

When asked about her fitness journey, she says, "My fitness journey started when I was in Class 12. I had gained a lot of weight and decided to join a gym to get fit. During my training, my coach noticed that I had natural strength and could lift heavier weights than most beginners. He suggested that I try powerlifting. I participated in a competition, won, and became addicted to the feeling of success. From that point onward, powerlifting became my passion and eventually my profession."

Gaurii also shares how her family's support has helped her. "My family's support has been one of the biggest reasons behind my success. Coming from a conservative background, it wasn't easy to pursue sports, but my parents always stood by me. They encouraged me to study, supported my decisions, and gradually became my strongest pillars throughout my journey."

Featuring a diverse squad with players from across Karnataka, Manipur, Haryana, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Assam and Uttar Pradesh, the team reflected the growing depth of grassroots football talent in the country. Bengaluru, April 02, 2026 : The Karnataka State Armwrestling Association (KSAA) proudly announces the successful hosting of the ​6th Karnataka State Armwrestling Championship 2026, recently held at Nexus Mall, Koramangala.

​Strength met spirit at the championship with support and sponsorship from Hercules from The House of Khodays.The championship showcased over 150 elite armwrestlers from across Karnataka, all vying for top honors and a chance to qualify for the prestigious All India National Championships set for June 2026. This event is crucial in identifying and nurturing local talent, with winners being given the opportunity to represent Karnataka on a national platform. Successful competitors at the national level will then have the chance to represent India at the World Armwrestling Championship 2026 in Japan, under the auspices of the International Armwrestling Federation. India has a proud history of strong performances in international competitions, evidenced by the impressive haul of three gold and two bronze medals at the 2025 World Championship held in Azerbaijan.

The competitive intensity of the league reached its zenith during the high-stakes final clashes. In a standout semi-final encounter that echoed the pressure of the championship, Punjab faced off against a formidable Uttar Pradesh side led by former IPL player Kamran Khan.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Uttar Pradesh Blue posted a competitive total of 104/6 in just 9 overs, driven by disciplined batting and fearless intent. Punjab’s response was a masterclass in composure. Despite losing early wickets, the chase culminated in a final-over thriller. Pune : The SRTL Ultra Marathon, organised amid the historic forts of Sinhagad–Rajgad–Torana–Lingana (SRTL), bearing witness to the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, concluded successfully. This year marked the eighth edition of the international-standard event. In the 100 km men’s category, Vishal Valvi of Palghar clinched the title with a new record time of 10 hours 09 minutes 40 seconds, while Rakhi Rai secured first place in the women’s category with a record-breaking performance. Last year’s 100 km men’s champion Hemant Limbu finished second this year. Runners from India and abroad delivered impressive performances across various distance categories, further raising the stature of the race.

Held annually along an ancient route starting from the foothills of Sinhagad and passing through Rajgad and Torana to the foothills of Lingana, the marathon witnessed participation from athletes representing nine countries—India, France, England, the United States, South Korea, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway and Estonia. More than 950 runners from 24 Indian states and 55 cities took part. The competition was conducted across four distance categories: 100 km, 53 km, 25 km and 11 km.

In the 100 km women’s category, Rakhi Rai finished first in 18 hours 54 minutes 37 seconds, followed by Snehal Yogita in second place with 19 hours 39 minutes 55 seconds, and Hema Awale in third with 23 hours 23 minutes 48 seconds. In the 53 km men’s category, Som Bahadur Thami won with a time of 5 hours 50 minutes 59 seconds, while Sanjay Negi secured second place and Dnyaneshwar Naik finished third. In the 53 km women’s category, Summaya Limbu finished first, followed by Urmila Bane in second and Veena Tadsare in third. In the 25 km category, Raunak Shekhawat topped the men’s race and Samjna Rai won the women’s race. In the 11 km category, Tanay Kachare emerged victorious among men, while Surabhi Merukar claimed the women’s title.

Organised by the Western Ghats Running Foundation, the event featured special arrangements for runner safety, primary medical care and essential facilities. Winners were felicitated with idols of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and special mementoes. Foundation president Digvijay Jedge informed that the Western Ghats Running Foundation is a member of the International Trail Running Association, and runners who complete the SRTL Ultra Marathon earn qualifying points for the UTMB in France.

The route passing through the forts of Sinhagad, Rajgad, Torana and Lingana—historic witnesses to the valour of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his Mavalas—was once used for travel, trade and agriculture. Today, the marathon inspires people to take time out from busy lives to run for health and happiness, offering a unique blend of culture, history and fitness. The event is held annually with the cooperation of the Maharashtra State Archaeology Department, Forest Department, Tourism Department, Pune Police and the Pune District Collector’s Office.

For the successful organisation of the event, Foundation president Digvijay Jedhe, trustees Anil Pawar, Mahesh Malusare, Mandar Mate, Adv. Maruti Gole, Amar Dhumal, Adv. Rajesh Satpute, along with around 500 volunteers from Daund, Haveli, Rajgad, Mulshi, Shirur talukas and Pune city, worked tirelessly for 48 hours. The Athletes Training Programme was led by coach Yogesh Sanap with support from coaches Anant Kachare, Shyamal Mondal, Chaitanya Velhal and runner Anand Hatwalne. Renowned ultra-runner Taru Mateti and accomplished runner Padmaraj Doshi were invited as chief guests and flagged off the race at 6 a.m. from Golewadi.

Jaipur, September 17, 2025: Dabang Delhi K.C. continued their brilliant run in the PKL Season 12 as they clinched their sixth straight win against Telugu Titans at SMS Indoor Stadium, Jaipur on Wednesday. After trailing by five points in the first half, it was Neeraj Narwal who came to the fore with nine points, while he was ably supported by High Fives from Saurabh Nandal and Fazel Atrachali.

The Telugu Titans opened the scoring with a successful raid from Vijay Malik, giving them an early lead. They quickly built on this momentum as Shubham Shinde executed a solid tackle to make it 2-0. The Titans maintained their dominance, with Bharat picking up a raid point and then following it up with a strong tackle to send Ashu Malik to the bench, pushing their lead to 4-0.

Dabang Delhi finally opened their account through a well-timed tackle by Surjeet Singh in a do-or-die raid. Soon after, Manjeet delivered a successful raid, cutting the deficit to 5-2. However, Neeraj Narwal earned a point for his side and revived the Dabang Delhi captain, reducing the gap to 5-3. 

After a slow start, Dabang Delhi gradually found their rhythm and closed the deficit further, bringing the score to 5-4 by the time the first time-out was taken in the opening half.

The Telugu Titans resumed the game strongly, collecting a couple of quick points to stretch their advantage. Their defence continued to hold firm, once again stopping Ashu Malik and sending him to the bench, which extended their lead to 8-4 with just over six minutes left in the first half.

The Titans’ defensive unit maintained their intensity for the remainder of the half, consistently shutting down Dabang Delhi’s raiders. Their solid all-round effort helped them go into halftime with a 14-9 lead, firmly in control of the contest.

Dabang Delhi mounted a strong comeback in the second half, sparked by a brilliant Super Raid from Neeraj Narwal, who looked in terrific touch, earned them three points and cut the deficit to 14-15.

However, Telugu Titans responded quickly with a well-executed Super Tackle, regaining control and extending their lead to 19-14. Dabang Delhi then produced a big turning point by inflicting an ALL OUT, which helped them take the lead for the first time in the match at 20-19 with just over 13 minutes left on the clock. They built on this momentum with a solid tackle to push their advantage to 21-19.

With Fazel Atrachali leading the charge in defence. He pulled off several sharp tackles and completed a well-earned High Five, as the side extended their lead to 27-22 within the first four minutes of the half.

Dabang Delhi appeared to be in complete control for most of the second half, but Telugu Titans kept pushing and managed to close the gap to just three points in the final three minutes of play. However, Delhi’s all-round performance ensured they didn’t lose their grip on the match. 

The Titans stayed in the fight as Shubham Shinde produced a crucial tackle to make it 27-30, followed by a successful raid from Praful Zaware that brought the score to 28-30. With just over 40 seconds left, only two points separated the two sides.

But Akshit stepped up for Dabang Delhi with a decisive Super Raid that pushed their lead to 33-28, effectively sealing the contest. The Titans managed to pick up one more point, but the season 8 winners held on to secure a 33-29 win.

The Indian archery contingent faced an unexpected challenge ahead of the World Archery Youth Championships in Winnipeg, Canada, when sudden flight cancellations by Air Canada left athletes stranded and at risk of missing the event.

What could have been a devastating setback was turned around through the tireless, coordinated efforts of the Archery Association of India (AAI), which worked relentlessly to protect the aspirations of its young athletes.

A multi-solution approach was adopted—rebooking athletes on alternate connections and sending them in batches so that every possible route was covered. In parallel, urgent discussions were held with World Archery, securing special permission for Indian archers to compete despite arriving a day late, even though the rules normally require participation in official practice sessions.

"Our athletes represent the pride of India, and it was unthinkable to let them miss out because of reasons beyond their control. The entire association came together, worked with partners across borders, and ensured that India’s flag will fly high in Winnipeg," said Shri Arjun Munda, President, Archery Association of India.

Behind the scenes, officials worked around the clock—not only to move athletes across multiple routes, but also to initiate talks with Air Canada to recover the costs of the cancelled tickets. "This episode shows that sporting excellence requires strong institutional support. While our athletes focus on performance, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder with them, ensuring that no external obstacle could deny them their rightful place in the Championships," remarked Shri Virendra Sachdeva, Secretary General, Archery Association of India.

The logistical effort was made possible by seamless coordination within the federation. "It was inspiring to witness the way our team handled this crisis. I must especially commend Mr. Gunjan Abrol, Assistant Secretary, Archery Association of India, and his team for their tireless work and coordination that made this possible. Their persistence, even in the most difficult circumstances, has set a benchmark for professionalism within Indian sport," noted Mr. Joris Paulose, Treasurer, Archery Association of India.

Reflecting on the intense few days, Mr. Gunjan Abrol, Assistant Secretary, Archery Association of India, said: "This was a test of resilience and teamwork. From negotiating with airlines to working with World Archery for exemptions, every step mattered. National : Naisha Nishit Mehta, a 17-year-old artistic roller-skating prodigy from Mumbai, has scripted history by winning the Gold Medal in the Junior Girls – Solo Dance category at the 20th Asian Roller-Skating Championship held in South Korea. This remarkable victory not only marked her international debut but also made her the first Indian junior skater to secure the top position in the event, winning with a lead of 6.72 points.

Naisha’s journey began at just 4½ years old, when she first stepped onto the rink with a pair of skates. The ninth edition of the much-awaited Trimurti Monsoon Run 2025 will be held on Sunday, August 3, celebrating not just running, but the city's vibrant fitness culture and strong sense of social connection.

Organised by Jaipur Runners Club and IIEMR – Institute of Event Management & Research, in collaboration with Trimurti Builders, the run has grown into more than just a sporting event – it is now a symbol of wellness, unity, and community celebration.

Participants can choose from three categories: 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. The scenic route starts from Lohagarh Resort, Kukas, and concludes at Lohagarh Fort, offering a refreshing experience through lush green surroundings, soaked in the spirit of the monsoon.

Speaking about the event, Club President Praveen Tijaria, along with Co-Founders Ravi Goenka and Mukesh Mishra, said, “The Trimurti Monsoon Run is not just a celebration of health and fitness, but also a step towards fostering positivity, friendship, and collective energy in the community.”

Mega Boot Camp Held Ahead of the Run

In preparation for the big day, a Mega Boot Camp was recently organized at City Park, drawing hundreds of runners and fitness enthusiasts. According to Club Secretary Nipun Wadhwa, the boot camp featured expert sessions led by FitYog guru Arvind Singh and Coach Aishwarya, who guided participants on pre-run routines, stretching techniques, and yoga practices.

The Trimurti Monsoon Run 2025 promises to be a thrilling celebration of friendship and fitness, bringing together Jaipurites from all walks of life to run, connect, and celebrate.

Pune :  The internationally recognized Thriller “Sinhagad Epic Trail Marathon”, organized by the Western Ghats Running Foundation (WGRF), concluded with great energy, spirit, and participation at the historic Sinhagad Fort, a glorious symbol of Swarajya. Nilesh Kulaye and Pooja Krishnamurthy emerged as winners in the challenging 42 km full marathon category.

This unique mountain trail marathon is dedicated to the brave Mavalas (warriors) who sacrificed their lives for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Swarajya, and is affiliated with the International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and is a UTMB Index Race. Every year, WGRF organizes this flagship event on the last Saturday of June.

Participants experienced a truly thrilling 11-hour journey, completing the course through five different historic trails of Sinhagad, encountering steep cliffs, dense valleys, muddy terrain, and breathtaking natural beauty. The marathon started and ended at Atkarwadi village at the foothills of Sinhagad. Beyond being a race, the event delivered a strong message on fitness, environmental protection, fort conservation, and heritage preservation.

This year’s event saw participation of 827 runners from 8 countries, 24 Indian states, and 45 cities, across four race categories: 11 km, 21 km, 30 km, and 42 km.

EISB Athletes with their Medal Wins at Stairs Youth National Games, 2025

Bengaluru, May 26, 2025 : Students from EISB won 10 medals at the Stairs Youth National Games 2025 held in New Delhi from May 19 to 21. This was a momentous win for EISB as the prestigious event provided a national platform for the school’s young athletes to demonstrate their talent and compete against top-tier schools from across the country in a range of track and field events.

The EISB team secured 3 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Below are the details of the winners:

The ambitious project was unveiled at a press conference held at The Club, Mumbai, where Sanna introduced the concept and revealed the face of the event,  Taher Khuram, a top-ranking heavyweight boxer from Afghanistan, currently ranked No. 2 in India and No. 1 in his division in Afghanistan.

Taher is being trained by coach Zeeshan, who is also the president of Mumbai Boxing Council, who confirmed that the boxer is training hard for one of the biggest fights of his career. When asked about the absence of women boxers in the lineup, Zeeshan said, "There are no women boxers due to customs, we will organize a world-class event."

Zeeshan told about Taher that Taher is a strong, prepared fighter. He is a disciplined and tough fighter and works hard. He has a 6-hour training, even after getting injured in it, he practices with full enthusiasm the next day. When asked about the meaning of sniper, Zeeshan told that the meaning of sniper is more sharp, more focus. Sanna Madam has kept a very good name.

Kumar of Show Theme Production and Swadesh News also joined Sanna in this event, he told that this boxing event is going to have a fashion tadka. And I will always be associated with them.

Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers, Sobisco Smashers Malda, Murshidabad Kings/Kueens, Rashmi Medinipur Wizards, Shrachi Rarh Tigers, Servotech Siliguri Strikers, Harbour Diamonds and Adamas Howrah Warriors are the eight teams of the League representing the different districts of Bengal. Last season the men’s title was jointly won by Sobisco Smashers Malda and Murshidabad Kings while in the women’s Lux Shyam Kolkata Tigers had emerged as Champions.

Arivaa Sports, the management partners of the League, shall aim to make the tournament more successful, glamorous and competitive this season too.

A live player draft added to the excitement, drawing a crowd of over 100 creators, influencers, and team owners. Indian Women’s League 2 commenced on April 2nd, with Roots Football Club (RFC) playing its first match on April 4th against Inter Kashi (IK). The tournament will see RFC’s talented squad take the field, led by team captain Achom Degio from Arunachal Pradesh, a national-level player known for her composure and strategic gameplay. Supporting her is Neha Mukati, a skilled midfielder from Madhya Pradesh, whose journey from discovering football in the sixth grade to representing India at the U-14 level has been nothing short of inspiring. Maya Rabari, a determined defender from Gujarat, brings resilience and discipline to the backline, having represented the Futsal India team and competed at the national level. Sonakshi Singh, the team’s goalkeeper from Uttar Pradesh, is determined to build a professional football career, showcasing quick reflexes and sharp instincts that frequently save the team in crucial moments.

To mark the beginning of this prestigious tournament, a jersey launch event was held, graced by Shruti K Choudhari of BLK. The launch celebrated the spirit of the game and the commitment of the RootsxBLK team as they prepare for one of the highest echelon of women’s football in India.

Sonakshi Singh: Roots’ GK who hails from UP has always wanted to become a professional Goalkeeper. Despite being dealt a bad deck with there not being any Goalkeeping specific training in UP accessible to her, hard work and perseverance is what earned her a spot on this team. Her Quick reflexes generally saves the club from a tight situation or two from time to time. 

Sunalinda Iawren: Hailing from Nongstoin, Meghalaya, Sunalinda Iawren pursued football against the odds, defying her family's academic-focused expectations. With early guidance from her brother, she honed her skills and competed in school tournaments. In 2019, she trialed for the Indian team for the FIFA World Cup but remained undeterred despite not being selected. She later played in Bangalore’s Super Division and represented her state in multiple tournaments. Though she discontinued her BA after the third semester, she continues striving to represent India internationally, driven by passion and resilience.

Neha Mukati: From Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh, Neha Mukati discovered football in 6th grade and soon excelled. By 8th grade, she played for India’s U-14 team in Tajikistan. She has represented Madhya Pradesh in Sub-Junior and Senior Nationals, played university championships for GNDU, and competed in Khelo India University Games. Her club career includes IWL with BBK DAV, Karnataka State League with Roots FC, and MFA League with PIFA. Currently, she plays in IWL 2 with Roots FC while pursuing a B.P.Ed. Football is her passion, and she aspires to achieve greater heights in the sport.

Maya Vershibhai Rabari: A rising footballer from Gujarat, 19-year-old Maya Rabari has represented her district, competed at the national level, and played in the Indian Women’s League. She discovered football in 4th grade, and it soon became her dream. Her dedication led her to significant milestones, including representing the Futsal India team in 2025. Athletes from an array of sports were honoured for their outstanding achievements both at the international and national level in what was a glamorous night for Indian sports. The grand event saw former Indian Hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh named the Sportstar of the Year (Male) and Paris Olympics double medallist Manu Bhaker honoured as the Sportstar of the Year (Female) and Sportswoman of the Year in an Olympic Sport (Female).

The Indian men’s and women’s chess teams, who created history by winning the Budapest Chess Olympiad last year, jointly won the National Team of the Year award. 

In addition to the Popular Awards, a total of 17 honours were given out on the night, including individual and team awards across various sports. Some of the winners included Jaspal Rana, who won the Coach of the Year honour, Swapnil Kusale and Sarabjot Singh who won Sportsman of the Year (Male, Olympic Sport) and PV Sindhu was awarded the Inspiration Icon Award. 

It was a big night for hockey as legendary players Gurbux Singh and Mary D'Souza Sequeira were given Lifetime Achievement Awards.

ICC Chair Jay Shah was honoured with the Special Recognition Game Changer Award for his remarkable rise in the administrative framework of the game. Shah, who has championed women’s cricket during his time as BCCI secretary, dedicated the award to all women working hard in their careers. 

Star shooter Manu Bhaker shared her appreciation upon winning the award and said, “ I'm extremely happy to receive this honour. This is all thanks to my father and my coach and of course my support staff. Previously, at the Aces, I had received the Emerging Athlete of the Year award so I am really honoured to receive such a prestigious award this time. I will try my best to work even harder in future and win more medals.”

On receiving the award, PR Sreejesh stated, “Thank you very much for this. It’s a bit hard for me to believe that I'm the chosen one, but it's a great recognition. I hope this is a great motivation for the youngsters because when I was a kid, we all dreamt about coming on the cover page of such an established magazine (Sportstar) so thank you very much for this.”

P.V. Sindhu too spoke on the rise of women in sports on the occasion and said, “ A lot of women out there are doing really well. I can see a lot of potential, especially in my sport (badminton). I believe there will be a lot of Olympic medalists very soon and I wish everyone all the best.”

Determined to nurture young talent, Master Rao established the Rao’s Yuva Academy in 2012, which has become a premier Taekwondo training centre in Belagavi, Karnataka with being ISO 9001:2015 certification since 2022. Registered under the Taekwondo Federation of India in the year 2014, the academy has trained numerous athletes in Taekwondo. Many of his students have gone on to excel at district, state, and national championships, bringing laurels to their families.

His expertise as a coach has been recognised with prestigious certifications, including the World Taekwondo Level I & II International Coach Certifications, Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching from Sunrise University, Alwar and an NIS Certificate in Sports Coaching (Taekwondo) from the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala. His coaching prowess was globally acknowledged when he was inducted into the World Sports Martial Arts Council’s Hall of Fame in the USA, receiving the Best Coach in the Field of Taekwondo Award in 2022.

In his administrative roles, Taekwondo Master Rao has significantly contributed to the promotion of Taekwondo at multiple levels. Serving as the Technical Director of Karnataka Taekwondo Association, the Senior Vice-President of Belagavi District Taekwondo Association & the Chairman of Udupi District Taekwondo Association, he has played a crucial role in structuring Taekwondo events, refining officiating standards, and ensuring the Taekwondo sport’s growth across Karnataka.

As a certified National Referee, Taekwondo Master Rao has officiated as Technical Director at several high-profile tournaments, including twice in CBSE South Zone Championships, thrice in DASARA Games Chief Minister’s Cup, and more than 10 times at State Taekwondo Championships. His leadership roles as Tournament Director and Competition Supervisor in numerous district, state, and national events have elevated the standards of Taekwondo officiating, ensuring fair play and professionalism in the sport.

A Decorated Athlete and International Competitor

Beyond his coaching and officiating endeavours, Taekwondo Master Rao has demonstrated exceptional skill as a competitor. He clinched a Gold Medal at the Belagavi District Taekwondo Championship (2014) in the Junior Category (Under 40 KG) and later achieved international acclaim by winning Gold for India in the Senior (Under 54 KG) Category at the International Beach Combat Games (2019) in Goa.

A Visionary Leader in Sports Development

Taekwondo Master Rao’s contributions extend beyond Taekwondo. He played a pivotal role in integrating Taekwondo, an Olympic discipline into the sports curriculum of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Three standout creations emerged as winners in Delhi: Bubble of Life received the award for Best Theme Interpretation, Puck Puck Puck won for Best Gameplay, and Bablu Bhayankar was recognized for its exceptional art design. These games not only impressed the judges but also highlighted the immense talent of the local gaming community.

Indian visitors played a key role in this growth, as the second-largest source of international arrivals to Melbourne. In 2024, more than 200,000 Indian tourists visited the State, driven by rising demand for unique cultural experiences and major events. Additionally, spending by Indian visitors rose by 31 per cent compared to the previous year, underscoring the growing appeal of Victoria as a top international destination.

Among the year’s most significant events, the Pro Kabaddi League Melbourne Raid and the Boxing Day Test captured global attention. The Melbourne debut of the Pro Kabaddi League was a historic milestone for the League. Held at John Cain Arena, the event buzzed with high-energy excitement, replicating the vibrant atmosphere of matches in India and showcasing Melbourne’s capability to host large-scale international sporting events. The PKL Melbourne Raid broadcast garnered an astounding 14.2 million reach across TV and OTT platforms in India, captivating audiences and amplifying the event’s global excitement!

This marked the largest Test crowd in Australian cricket history and the second largest globally, underscoring Melbourne’s status as a world-class venue for international sporting events.

The influx of visitors was also reflected in the city’s hospitality and tourism sectors. Hotel occupancy in Melbourne reached a peak of 88 per cent as at 27 December, showing a notable 11 per cent increase compared to the previous year. From 24-28 December, nearly 250,000 passengers arrived at Melbourne Airport, further demonstrating the city’s growing appeal to both domestic and international travelers, especially from India.

Victoria’s connection with India remains strong, with nearly 260,000 Indian-born residents now calling the State home. The success of events like the Australian Tourism Exchange and the Indian Trade Mission have been instrumental in strengthening these ties and driving the growth of Victoria’s tourism market. In 2024, international tourism expenditure reached an outstanding $8.8 billion, a 57 per cent increase from the previous year, marking the highest growth of any mainland Australian State.

The marathon quickly transformed into a vibrant festival of health and wellness. Prior to the flag-off, an energetic pre-race warm-up session, led by a DJ and Emcee, infused the crowd with energy, setting the tone for the day. The official race flag-off was conducted by Paresh Mishra, CEO of Water Kingdom, and Flight Lieutenant Anand Lamdhade, Senior Vice President of Operations at Water Kingdom, further reinforcing the event’s commitment to promoting a culture of health and fitness across Mumbai.

24 October 2024, New Delhi: PWR and NPL have today confirmed a partnership that establishes NPL as the exclusive and official tournament and league provider for the Oceania region in 2025. Through this partnership, NPL’s leagues and tournaments will now be part of the PWR structure, allowing NPL players to earn points towards their PWR ranking and assist in qualifying for the PWR World Series.

PWR is home to the newly created Pickleball World Rankings, along with the PWR World Tour and PWR World Series. As a unified global ranking system, PWR offers a clear path for pickleball players to earn ranking points by competing in regional events. Players accumulate points through the PWR World Tour and can qualify for the PWR World Series.

NPL, the leading pickleball organisation in Australia, runs the flagship Professional Teams League (NPL ProTour) and a professional tournament circuit. 

As PWR’s exclusive partner in Oceania, only NPL events—both league and tournaments—will award PWR ranking points in the region. This collaboration aims to unify regional bodies under one global structure, supporting the long-term growth and governance of pickleball.

The exact point structure for NPL Australia tournaments will be announced later in 2024, but all events will fall under PWR’s established categories: PWR50, PWR100, PWR200, PWR400, PWR700, PWR1000, and PWR2000.

HYROX India aims to introduce a groundbreaking fitness race that combines running and functional strength workouts, offering a new challenge to gym enthusiasts, runners, and the broader fitness community across India. The race will make its India debut on 3rd May 2025, and with Mumbai as the host city.

HYROX, which began in Germany in 2017, has become the fastest-growing fitness event globally, with successful events in cities like London, New York, Berlin, Dubai, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

A Simple Yet Challenging Format

The HYROX format is designed to be accessible yet challenging, making it ideal for participants of all fitness levels. The average finishing time is around 1 hour and 45 minutes.

The event involves 8 x 1 km runs, each 1 km run followed by a functional workout station as follows

A big jump was made by Arshdeep

In the first match played in Gwalior on Sunday (October 6), a total of three wickets were taken by the 25-year-old bowler. Each franchise can retain a maximum of six players. This also includes the Right-to-Match (RTM) option. This could include two uncapped Indians. The IPL has also stated that it can have a maximum of five international players. These can be all Indian or all foreign or a mix of both for a maximum of five international players. One player must be uncapped.

2. The Matching Rights Card is back

RTM is back in the auction. It wasn't used in the last Mega Auction. The Matching Rights Card was last used in the 2017 Mega Auction, but it wasn't used in the 2022 Mega Auction. But now she's back. The RTM gives franchises the opportunity to buy back players during the auction. After the bidding is completed, if the player's old team wants the player, the old team has to pay the amount offered by the new team and gets the player back. After at least three franchises supported RTM, the IPL decided to reintroduce it. However, this time, there are some twists in the "Right to Play" cards.

For the benefit of the players, the IPL has made some changes to the RTM rules. This means that the highest bidder has one last chance to raise his bid for the player before the team with the RTM card exercises its rights. For example, if team 1 holds the RTM for a player, team 2 has the opportunity to increase their bid if team 1 agrees. If team 2 increases their bid to Rs 9 crore, team 1 can use the RTM to buy player X for Rs 9 crore. If team 2 does not increase their bid and leaves it at Rs 6 crore, team 1 can use the RTM to acquire player X for Rs 6 crore.

3. Auction amount increased to Rs 200 crore

The auction amount has been increased to Rs 120 crore. This means that the franchises will need Rs 120 crore to build their teams. Once committed, this money will be changed and the franchises will participate in the mega auction with the remaining money. This amount is Rs 200 crore higher than the previous auction (Rs 100 crore). This is one of the most important decisions of the IPL Board.

4. How will money be deducted from the franchise wallet after the players are retained?

If a franchise wants to retain the five players they have selected, this amount will be deducted from its purse: For the first three ties, Rs 1.8 crore (Player 1), Rs 1.4 crore (Player 2) and Rs 1.1 crore (Player 3) will be deducted and charged from the franchise wallet. For the remaining two ties, Rs 1.8 crore (Player 4) and Rs 1.4 crore (Player 5) will be deducted from the franchise wallet.

This means that a franchise that had retained five international players before the auction will lose Rs 75 crore out of the total Rs 1.2 billion.

For players with no international experience, up to Rs 40 crore can be spent on bonding. The same happened in the 2021 mega auction. This means that a franchise retaining six players (one of whom has no international experience) will lose Rs 79 crore from its kitty and will be left with only Rs 41 crore for the mega auction.

5. Impact Player Rule remains popular

Despite opposition from several franchises and former cricketers, the BCCI retained the Impact Player Rule. Rohit Sharma had expressed concerns that the rule could have a detrimental effect on the development of all-rounders. However, the IPL has decided to retain the Impact Player rule, which will continue till 2027. The rule was first implemented in 2023. Nine of the 10 highest scores in the history of IPL have been achieved after the introduction of the Impact Player rule. This rule allows teams to replace one player from the starting eleven and use a 12th player. IPL believes that this rule will move the IPL forward and is also good from a viewership point of view.

6. Injury Replacements and Player Loans

Until IPL 2024, franchises had to find replacements for injured players before the seventh match of the season. From IPL 2025, teams can now replace injured players until the 12th match of the league phase. At the same time, the IPL has decided to reintroduce the player loan process, although the player loan rule is not yet in place. It can only be activated during the season.

7. New rule on international experience, easier path for Dhoni

Former captain Dhoni, who led CSK to five IPL titles, can now participate in the auction as an experienced international player. In a meeting of the apex council, it was decided that an Indian player will be considered as an experienced international player if he has not played for the national team in the last five calendar years. According to an official statement from the IPL, an experienced Indian player will be considered as an experienced international player if he has not played as a starting player in any international cricket (Test Match, ODI, T20 International) in the last five calendar years prior to the respective match. He has either completed a season or is not under a central contract with the BCCI. This rule is applicable only to Indian players. The rule change means that former Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Dhoni, who last played for the Indian team against New Zealand in 2019, will be considered an uncapped player for IPL 2025.

8. ... will then face a ban of two seasons

In a document submitted to franchises on the retention rules, the IPL said: "If a season is not available, he will be disqualified from participating in the IPL or IPL auctions for two seasons. The IPL Governing Council said: "The only exception would be if a player has an injury or medical condition which is confirmed by the player's association." Strict rules for foreign players

After players like Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc won huge amounts of money in the mini-auction last year, the IPL governing body has also made major changes with regards to the mega-auction and mini-auction. It states that foreign players who do not register or forget to register for the mega-auction will not be able to register for the mini-auction either. Again, exceptions apply whereby players suffering from injuries or illnesses will be exempt from registration. This will be confirmed by the player's home association before the mega-auction.

9. In IPL 2025, players will earn Rs 7.5 million as match fees of
will earn more. The BCCI has decided to pay each player a match fee of Rs 7.5 million per match. This means that franchises will pay the teams for their playing time during the season, in addition to their contracts. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced the move. He said that Rs 12.6 crore will be allocated to each franchise as match fees for the season. This amount is allocated in addition to the auction price of the franchises. The 12 players in the team list will receive match fees of Rs 9 crore per match (12 players in total). Multiply this by 14 matches (total number of matches played by each team during the league period) and it comes to Rs 1,260 crore.

By the end of the day's play, wicketkeeper batsman Tom Blundell was present at the crease with 47 runs and Glenn Phillips with 32 runs. In the second innings, Nishan Peiris took three wickets for Sri Lanka, while Prabath and captain Dhananjay de Silva have got one wicket each. India-Bangladesh Test Statistics

India has played 14 matches against Bangladesh in Tests. This is the first time that India and Bangladesh will face each other in a Test at Kanpur. India's track record in Kanpur is very strong. In 23 Tests, the country has lost only three matches here. However, most of the 13 Tests have ended in draws and they have won only seven matches.

Reducing plastic consumption

The UPCA has decided to drastically reduce plastic consumption during the second Test to keep the environment clean. The UPCA has banned plastic plates for serving 'snacks' inside the stadium and only paper plates are permitted. Stadium director Sanjay Kapoor said, "The match is being played at Green Park and we are trying to make it a 'green' match. We have decided to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible."

Soil sourced from village near Unnao

Black soil for the Green Park pitch has been sourced, as always, from a village near Unnao, 23 km from Kanpur. Black soil pitches traditionally help spinners, while red soil helps fast bowlers. The pitch is expected to be slower. An Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) official said, "We have got this soil tested from the Indian Institute of Technology. This is a special soil found near a pond in Kali Mitti village."

Pitch Report

The pitch at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium is said to be conducive to both fast bowlers and spinners. It is geared towards helping the fast bowlers in the early stages and the spinners in the later stages of the game. Green Park curators issued a statement on Wednesday saying the pitch would help the fast bowlers in the first two sessions and the spinners in the last three days. Curator Shiv Kumar said, "It will have exactly the same feel as the match in Chennai. There will be something for everyone." Joe Root made his Test debut on 13 December 2012 against India. He also made his ODI and T20 debuts within a month of each other. Root played in all three formats till 2018, but after May 2019, the management removed him from T20. 44 44 44 Root also did not get many chances in ODIs, but never missed a Test. England have played 69 Tests since 2019, Root has played in 68 of them, but could not play a single match due to injury. In these six years, Root has only played 50 ODIs and four T20s. During this period, England have played 163 limited-overs matches.

Meanwhile, Virat has focused on all three formats since his debut. India have played 47 Tests since 2019, with Virat playing 37 of them, the most in the team. India have played 105 ODIs so far, with Virat playing 79, the most in the team. He has also played 60 of India's 125 T20 matches. Suryakumar Yadav, who only played T20 cricket, could only play 71 matches during this period.

The difference is clear. Root plays only one format, so he can fully focus on scoring runs and centuries in Tests. Virat, on the other hand, contributed to the team in all three formats. Kohli is now retired from T20 cricket and has played fewer ODI matches, so this is the perfect opportunity for him to perform to his full potential in Tests.

2. England plays more Tests per year than India

Among the 12 Test eligible nations, England has played the most matches. The team has played 10 Tests this year but will have to play 7 more Tests in 2024, making the total 17 Tests. Since 2019, England has played 69 Tests and Australia 49 Tests. India, on the other hand, has only been able to play 47 Tests.

Root, 33, has played more Tests, 145 matches in his 11-year career. This has also led to more opportunities to score points in Tests. Virat, 35, on the other hand, has only been able to play 113 Tests in his 13-year career. England plays between 12 and 18 Tests every year, whereas India plays only between 8 and 12 Tests. While the numbers have certainly increased in recent years, England is still a long way from catching up.

3. Badgeball pitches help Root

In May 2022, New Zealander Brendon McCullum was appointed coach of the England Test team. After Root relinquished the captaincy, Ben Stokes became the captain of the England team. Since then, England has adopted an aggressive batting approach, but the team has also changed their home pitch to achieve this. Badgeball was also called in England. Until 2022, pitches in England had grass on them, which helped fast bowlers and made it difficult to score runs due to the swing.

After the introduction of the badge ball, all pitches in England became flat, making it easy to score runs but very difficult to take wickets. Root took advantage of this and scored seven centuries in 18 Tests at home but only two centuries in 10 Tests overseas. After the badge ball, Root scored two centuries in every fifth Test in England. Previously, he needed to play eight Tests to score a double century.

Meanwhile, India has already started changing their pitchers from the England series in February 2021. In the first match, it was easy to hit for the first two or three days, but the spin got better in the last two days. However, in the last four years, the ball started spinning from the first day of the match, and it was difficult to score runs. This is why not only Virat but batsmen all over the world are eager to score in India.

In the last three years, Virat has only managed to score one century at home. During this period, the remaining 87 players could score only 19 centuries in a total of 14 Tests. Again, foreign players could score only six centuries. From 2011 to 2021, India scored 92 centuries in 48 Tests. This means that while earlier around four centuries were scored in every other Test, now there are only three centuries in every second Test. But one thing is certain - Virat has managed to score just one century overseas in the last three years.

Root has scored 21 centuries in England and nine in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa and New Zealand. However, he could not score a century in Australia, Bangladesh, Pakistan or the United Arab Emirates. Virat, on the other hand, has scored a century in every country he has played cricket for, except Bangladesh. He has scored six centuries in Australia and five centuries in England, South Africa and New Zealand. This means that it will be difficult for Root to reach 40 Test centuries if he does not get a home pitch.

4. Virat has been out of form for a long time
Virat Kohli scored his 27th Test century against Bangladesh on 23 November 2019. He scored many runs in 2019 but his form has been off since 2020. Centuries stopped coming in all three formats and although Virat scored runs reliably in ODIs and T20s, he also failed to deliver runs in Tests.

In a span of three years and three months, Virat could only score 993 runs in 22 Tests at an average of 26.13. He got 6/50, meaning that Virat was clearly in good form. Not only was it difficult to score runs in India, but Virat also struggled abroad. In March 2023, he scored the 28th century of his Test career against Australia and his first century from here against the West Indies.

Virat started scoring points and centuries in all three formats from September 2022. Over the next six months, India will play five Tests at home and five in Australia. Kohli is unlikely to get such a golden opportunity to reach peak form as he has scored 20 centuries at both venues.

Root has had a habit of scoring centuries in Tests when Virat was out of form. Since December 2019, he has scored more than 5000 runs in 57 Tests. These include 17 centuries and 19 fifties. His average is also approaching 55, the highest among active players who have completed 20 or more Tests.

On 31 August 2014, New Zealand legend Martin Crowe identified the top four players and named them the Fab-4. They included Joe Root and Virat Kohli along with Kane Williamson of New Zealand and Steve Smith of Australia. Crowe said at the time that all four would be the best batsmen in world cricket over the next decade and captain their respective teams. And it happened.

Fab-4 No one has better ODI and T20 statistics than Virat. But in Tests, sometimes it was Smith, sometimes Virat, sometimes Williamson and now Root who took the lead. Till December 2019, Virat had the most Test centuries with 27. Since then, Smith has had 26 centuries, Williamson 21 and Root just 17.

In the last four years, Smith has only managed to score six Test centuries and Virat two, while Williamson has scored 11 centuries and Root 17 during this period.As a result, Root has outdone not only Virat in Tests but also Smith and Williamson.However, no one has proven to be a better Test captain than Virat.

Leicestershire were in danger of losing their innings due to two early setbacks. The team lost three wickets for 74 runs.
